does the passenger get paid for sharing a car too? on naiss, yes
the cost is shared by everyone. the passenger creates the saving, so they get half.

almost everywhere, the driver gets paid and the passenger pays. on naiss, the passenger gets paid too, because every ride has two accounts.
the first account: what the ride costs, shared by everyone
on a ride recorded with gps, naiss works out what it cost, petrol and wear included, and splits it by each person's km. the driver included. that isn't paying a fare: it's sharing a cost, which is what the law allows (when charging for a shared ride is legal). it stays logged in a tab, with no naiss fee.
the second account: the passenger creates the saving
sharing a car saves energy, that saving is certified, and that's where the energy bonus comes from. and the passenger creates that saving. that's why, on naiss, each passenger's km that meet the requirements generate sparkies, split half and half:
- half for the passenger, because the saving is theirs.
- half for the driver, because without their car there'd be no ride.
the more people the driver takes, the more it adds up. and sparkies turn into euros in your account.
and if the ride was a gift
the driver can forgive a passenger's tab. but riding for free and also taking half the reward doesn't add up: if your ride is a gift, your half of that ride's sparkies goes to the driver. you'll see it in your history as a gifted ride (sparkies when a tab is forgiven).
- you pay your share of the ride
- you keep your half of the sparkies.
- your ride is a gift
- your half of that ride's sparkies goes to the driver.
if it's always like that with someone, put them in a free karma group (馃巵 or 馃挌): every ride with them is forgiven automatically, and they're told.
- if someone hasn't paid you yet, their sparkies are still theirs. they only move if the driver gives the ride away.
- only while the ride hasn't been sent for certification. after that, they stay where they were.
in short
- the cost: shared by everyone, the driver included.
- the saving: the passenger creates it, so they get half.
- if it's a gift: that half goes to the driver.
download naiss and make your next ride count for both of you.
